NYC Bans Metal Bats

Quote:
The measure outlaws metal bats under the theory that they produce harder and faster hits, risking injury to young players who have less time to react. Opponents of the bill, including Little League Baseball and sporting goods manufacturers, say there is no evidence metal bats are more dangerous.

Screw the manufacturers. College and High School should follow. Woodies for everyone!

Re: NYC Bans Metal Bats

yeah i know whats the point of metal bats? i mean the wooden ones look better, they look classic, the metal ones are simply for violence, good move. and what a ridiculous set of arguments, the little league? yeah its a great idea, have some metal bats that way if a bat slips out of a kids had as hes coming through to swing and he hits a fielder on the legs that kid is crippled for life, nah, give them the traditional bats and let them play like the pros did. and forget the manufacturers, they would say they want metal bats with nails coming out the end and a vodka bottle in the base if it meant giving them more money

I used a a broomstick back in the day.

No, metal bats are pretty good for baseball. I remember I bought an EASTON in High School, and I cracked one homerun* with it.

*Inside-The-Park, of course.

I have always disliked metal bats at any level of baseball. My son plays 11-12 league and I hate the sound of when a ball is hit with a metal bat. If you are a baseball fan nothing sounds better that a hit on the sweet spot of a wooden bat.

Re: NYC Bans Metal Bats

Doesn't anyone else find it ironic that these manufacturers tout their products as top level performance equipment and charge top dollar, but then they turn around and say no, no, no way do these bats make the ball go faster/harder?

Hmm.

Re: NYC Bans Metal Bats

Personally, I think they're going about this backwards. I have LESS of a problem with Little Leaguers using metal bats than college or high school kids. Do away with them in college and then work your way down, but don't have the youngsters start with wood bats and then go back to metal.

Re: NYC Bans Metal Bats

The problem is the leagues and schools worry about the financial problems. With the metal bats, they last a season...but cost more. The wooden bats will break frequently and although they cost less, it all adds up and will likely cost more in the long run.

Ditto...it doesn't hurt to use them in little league...its tailor made for that level of play.
