According to the Associated Press, "Minnesota goalie Manny Fernandez aggravated his sprained left knee in Tuesday's game at St. Louis, leaving his status in doubt for the rest of the Wild's road trip... Fernandez was questionable for Thursday's game at Colorado, team spokesman Aaron Sickman said Wednesday."

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Niklas Backstrom will be the starting goalie when the Minnesota Wild play at Boston on Thursday night, coach Jacques Lemaire said.

Backstrom, who is 9-3-2 since original starter Manny Fernandez initially sprained his knee on Jan. 20, was removed after allowing three goals in two periods of the Wild's 3-0 loss to San Jose on Tuesday. Fernandez played the third, his first appearance since Jan. 30.

After Wednesday's practice, Lemaire smiled when asked if he wants to give Fernandez a start during this two-game road trip to Boston and Buffalo.

"Maybe. We'll see," Lemaire said.

Backstrom's still starting, for now, but it sounds like Fernandez is getting close to returning 100%.

They are saying he aggravated the injury on jan 30 and since has only played 20 minutes - and he is now officially the back up.
There is no structural damage, but he's been ordered to stay off the ice for a couple of days.
