| Tarvaris Jackson feeling confident Jackson says year under belt has made world of difference Quote:
Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson was running an 11-on-11 drill in the second practice of Saturday's minicamp when the defense sent a blitz. Last season in this same set of drills, Jackson looked lost. This time, he calmly surveyed the field and completed a short pass to Chester Taylor.
Yes, it's minicamp and far too early to get overly excited about Jackson's development as he enters his second season as a starter. Still, the Vikings had to consider this a step in the right direction.
"It's like night and day," said Jackson, who also has hit on numerous deep passes in the first three practices. "Compared to this time last year, I feel like a whole different quarterback, really. Running plays, poised, knowing the system, and just being more confident. ... Things are much slower. I'm seeing things a lot better."
This is not to say Jackson is headed to the Pro Bowl. Early in the same drill, he skipped a pass to receiver Aundrae Allison. But overall, Jackson appears far more confident and less hesitant.
Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is certainly pleased.
"He's made tremendous progress," Bevell said. "His work ethic has been outstanding this offseason. He's been in here watching and studying. He's been out here training, trying to get better with the things he needs to get better at. I couldn't ask for more from him."
