| Vikings Draft Review 2nd-Round (No. 43 overall) - Safety Tyrell Johnson
Tyrell Johnson could make a push on Sharper for the starting job, however more than likely he will see limited time backing up Sharper and will be a special teams standout. After this year there is a good chance that Sharper and the Vikings will part ways and Tyrell will be waiting in the wings. 5th-Round (No. 137 overall) - Quarterback John David Booty
Booty was a great 5th round pickup and excellent long-term protection against Tarvaris Jackson failing. He was thought of as the next QB after the first 4 and possibly as early as a late 2nd round prospect, so to get him in the 5th is a steal for the Vikes. I doubt he ever becomes a great player, but he could potentially develop into a very solid starter. He will start as a 3rd stringer this year. 5th-Round (No. 152 overall) - Defensive tackle Letroy Guion
He will be groomed to be Fat Pats replacement in a couple years and in the meantime he will probably give Fat Pat a few breathers throughout the game. Guion has talent, but most think he came out a year early (the talk is first day prospect next year). I am not holding out real high hopes on him, but hopefully he proves me wrong. 6th-Round (No. 187 ovreall) - Center John Sullivan
Obviously the Vikings are looking to groom him for 2009 season after they let Birk walk. He isn't a super athlete, but he is reportedly a very intelligent player much like the man he might replace. Also talk of him possibly playing G, but I doubt he really gets on the field much this year. 6th-Round (No. 193 overall) - Wide receiver Jaymar Johnson
Sounds like a decent option returning punts and a passable kick returner, but not much else. If he makes the team it will be through special teams, because I don't see him making a dent in the WR depth chart. Sort of a flyer type pick. |
