New center in Minnesota?

With Matt Birk entering the final year of his contract and the team making little effort to get an extension done now, it’s possible the Vikings could have a new center in 2009. Given the Vikings’ history at the position, the next starting center could be around a long time as well.

Birk has been the Vikings starting center since 2000.

Birk's been real good for them... I'd think you'd want to keep him around if at all possible.

Re: New center in Minnesota?

birk is a good, pro bowl caliber center. if the vikings were smart they wouldnt get rid of him. with mckinnie, hutch, and birk, the running attack has been unstoppable. if they let one of these three linemen go, their running attack will faulter. and it will look like a replay of the seahawks after they let hutchinson go

Re: New center in Minnesota?

It seems like the for the last three or four years we have been quietly looking for a future replacement.

Well Birk isn't a spring chicken anymore and certainly isn't the player he once was (he is still good though) and McKinnie is a monumental moron, so we could very well be without both after this year. I think we will look hard at O-line in this draft.
