After signing a 6-year, $34 million deal last year, Vikings cornerback Fred Smooth got injured and eventually lost Fred Smoot's job. Now Fred Smoot is looking to come back, with a new number, and bigger physique and everything.

"The injury really humbled me," Fred Smoot said in the above article. "I've started every game since my 10th-grade year of high school, so that was the first time I actually had to sit and have to watch my team go play without me. That really humbled Fred Smoot. It didn't stop me from talking, but it really touched me. Now I've got a newfound passion for my game."

So can Fred Smoot play the way Fred Smoot used to be able to play? Or is Fred Smoot no longer the player Fred Smoot once was?

Fred Smoot has about as much a chance at a successful comeback as I do of escaping the hell I created when I said to my girlfriend "I'll never leave you, i'm your soulmate, we'll be together forever!" Ok maybe Fred has a better chance than that...anyone does.

Trashed you are a true Romantic man...all that soulmate talk...I like my glass half full...I like happily ever after, and riding off into sunsets...I think Mr. Smoot will make good on his comeback.

That romantic talk was the equivalent to Faust pledging his soul to Satan for wisdom, beauty and good fortune. Sooner or later the big boy downstairs is gonna come looking for his end of the bargain Bat-fan trust me. As for happily ever after...you have to look inward for that. As for Mr. Smoot was he really that good in the first place? I mean I remember him being good but not like Woodson or Bailey that this comeback is somehow akin to when Muhammad Ali came back to fight (a ready and waiting ) Smokin' Joe Frazier. We all knew how that turned out with Ali nearly getting his head separated from his shoulders and Fred will find that despite his work ethic his natural speed that was pre-injury as well as his ability to make sharp cuts are also gone. I dont believe in miracles.
