They need a more experienced QB. That is what kept them from making the 07 playoffs.

They need a QB, Receivers, and a pass rush then they may have a chance

Their D-Line stops the run doesn't pressure the QB, another pass rushing end would help them a lot.

It could but they need a pass rusher and the run defense should be fine.

If they had someone like Kerney, there D would be great. They would still need to improve on pass protection, but still a big improvment

Re: Can the 2008 Vikings make the playoffs

They arent as bad as you think they are and they do have a shot at the wild card, only with a few improvements.
If they want to make it this year, they have to go with Jackson I think. Unless some really good veteran pops up somewhere. Jackson is young, and has improved. With 260 rush yards, he's proved he's not afraid to tuck the ball and run when there is nothing open. He had 12 interceptions in 12 games. I compared him to Tony Romo who had 19 interceptions in 16 games. I think Jackson will be good enough.
Vikings D was 1st against run, but 32 against the pass. Offense was 1st in rushing, but 28th in passing yards. That last cant all be laid at Jackson's feet. Rice is a good receiver, but they all need to step it up.
Jackson was sacked 19 times in 12 games, which comes out to about 1.6 per game. Romo was sacked 24 times in 16 games which comes out to about 1.5 per game. So pass protection isnt bad comparatively.
Also remember, this team was just buying into Coach Childress's program and he was just buying into this team at the end of the year. They should be in better sync next year.

Sure, there's a chance. Jackson needs to play better (or be replaced) and they could use upgrades at WR and DB, but they're close.

Re: Can the 2008 Vikings make the playoffs

I would say their biggest concern would be at DB. It doesn't help stopping the run if you give up a first down at 3rd and long. A better WR would be nice, but teams have won without superstar receivers. They just need somebody to step up as Jackson's go to guy. It can't all be laid a Peterson's feet.
