Vikings:Hard Sell?

On Wednesday morning, after the 2007 Vikings' final team meeting, several players immediately bolted Winter Park for the airport.
"Got to get out of this cold," one player said as he headed for the single-digit temperature outside of the cozy locker room.
Minnesota may be the NFL's coldest outpost, but the Vikings may be one of football's hottest offseason destinations.
The Vikings just missed the playoffs, boast the NFL's top-rated run offense and run defense, and feature seven Pro Bowl players.

Minnesota might be a tough sales pitch, but with emerging talent and money to spend, the Vikings should be a formidable player in free agency.

Forever a bridesmaid I say...Not the largest of markets...this team will always be one player away from winning the big dance. As it is, I am not sold on Jackson yet...though I am glad Dallas does not have to face them this year.

It doesnt sound like Childress is sold right now either.
Other than that, I disagree. This team is only a few pieces away from being a top contender. And owners have money and arent afraid to spend it. Players go where there is a chance to win.

Naw, crumbling empire of 70's football...unless they go play in the elements like they did when they took out the Rams every year, they ain't gonna make it...

Prime example of that is the Boston Red Sox. For years they were nothing at all until new owners came along and decided to spend money to get players. After all, the Yankees had done this for years. Now we have a couple of Championships. Money does garner attention.

Re: Vikings:Hard Sell?

I agree with Gotham on this one. I have been a long time fan of the Vikings. They were always the pick of the people that knew football to win, but they never have enough talent to win. They either have a great offense or a great defense. They even the team out.

Re: Vikings:Hard Sell?

If they got some better WR and TE, and a better QB, they shouldnt of rushed tavaris as a rookie . Sydney Rice is the only good WR on the team.

Re: Vikings:Hard Sell?

I suffered through 4 Super Bowl losses with Viking teams far superior to this one. This team needs a QB, and at least two playmaking receivers. As long as I root for them, they will NEVER get over the hump. It is my cross to bear.

Ah, a more sensible take...good teams they were too...right smack in an era that had the Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders and Dolphins all with super teams...luck does not smile on them too often.

Re: Vikings:Hard Sell?

NO, Marshall did that before their great runs. One bad beat was in a playoff game when was when Drew Pearson pushed Nate Wright down and caught the Hail Mary from Staubach, still the all-time worst call ever in sports. Tarkenton's dad had a heart attack and died watching the game. A fan threw a bottle from the stands and nailed the ref in the head.

They were pretty much soundly whipped in all their Super Bowl losses. The one I lament most was against the raiders. They blocked a Ray Guy punt when the game was scoreless and drove to the one, where Brent Maclanahan fumbled at the goaline and the Raiders recovered. I believe if they had gotten out on top they would have been okay. I lived and died with Tarkenton and that club, mostly died in the big spots, but that was when football was exciting to me and I could sit through an entire contest.

Perfect call!...Touchdown all the way...these were the 70's, not the "you can't touch another player 00's"...great play...great catch...great team doing it!... only bad thing was the fans hitting the ref with a bottle
