A year ago at his season-ending news conference, Vikings coach Brad Childress definitively outlined his offseason game plan at quarterback, saying he would not hold veteran Brad Johnson "here against his will," and that Tarvaris Jackson and Brooks Bollinger would compete for the 2007 starting job.
This year, Childress didn't say much at all, declining to publicly cast Jackson as his 2008 starter.
Asked if he would be comfortable with Jackson as his starter, Childress said: "I don't know that it's ever good to get comfortable, but I'm glad that I saw progress from him, positive progress from him.
