Vikings Suddenly in Sync

As the Vikings head into the homestretch of the regular season, the stars continue to align in their favor.
With celestial rookie Adrian Peterson back in the lineup, coach Brad Childress' team took another big step toward the playoffs Sunday with a 42-10 demolition of the reeling Detroit Lions.
Without a winning opponent on the schedule, the road to the playoffs suddenly has been plowed wide open for the Vikings, whose third straight win pulled them into a tie for the second NFC wild-card spot with the Lions and Arizona at 6-6.
A lot still can happen in the next four weeks, but the Vikings are playing like a playoff team, even if they remain reluctant to embrace the label.

For the first time this season, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and the offense were the story Sunday, rolling up 443 yards and scoring on their first five possessions through the first half and into the third quarter.
Throw in another solid defensive effort and a team-record 103-yard kickoff return by rookie Aundrae Allison, and it was a great day all around for the Vikings, who are on a roll heading into Sunday's game at San Francisco, whether they want to admit it or not.

Peterson didn't miss a step in his first game back, rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries after missing the previous two weeks because of a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.
The bigger story, though, was Jackson, who completed 18 of 24 passes for 204 yards and touchdown tosses of 6 and 2 yards to wide receivers Bobby Wade and Sidney Rice, respectively.
For the record, it was the first two-TD game for Jackson, who also compiled a career-high 110.4 passer rating while turning in his third straight solid outing.
As usual, he deflected much of the credit to his teammates, including an offensive line that allowed just one sack while clearing the way for 216 yards rushing.
Some of those teammates, in turn, said they have noticed a growing confidence in their starting quarterback.

The vikings are my brothers favorite team, and if the hawks and vikes play each other, it will be hell for the loser
