| The Vikings attempted to address their scoring woes by using three of their first five picks on big-play talents, selecting Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson, South Carolina receiver Sidney Rice and East Carolina receiver Aundrae Allison. Perceived as a West Coast offensive disciple, Childress might be returning to his ground-hugging, 1990s roots as a University of Wisconsin assistant under coach Barry Alvarez, back when the Badgers pounded the ball with Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne. Peterson figures to make a strong run at Offensive Rookie of the Year honors as he gives Minnesota an electric, change-of-pace option to last year's starter, Chester Taylor. Running back wasn't a need position for the Vikings. But game-altering X factor was. With his 4.38 speed, Peterson is the sudden Sooner whose ability to provide instant offense will be a key to easing the burden on Jackson (and Taylor) by helping to establish the threat of a play-action attack. "We were looking for guys that are explosive," Childress says. "It's hard to drive the field with 12-, 13-, 14-play drives. When you do have it blocked right, it's nice to have someone who can go yard on you." Vikings have new faces, but the right ones? - USATODAY.com
