Minnesota Vikings ownership has sent out a clear message that it intends to work hard this legislative session to get the Legislature to pass a bill for a new football stadium with a retractable roof.

And Zygi Wilf and his people will certainly do that. They were impressive in coming late to the stadium debate last session and making their case well, even though a new on-campus college football stadium for the Gophers and a new outdoors ballpark for the Minnesota Twins were far ahead of them in the pecking order.

Now it’s just the Vikings, as facilities for both the Gophers and Twins were OK’d last year.

But Gov. Tim Pawlenty is right on in saying 2008 not 2007 will likely be the year for serious consideration of a new Vikings stadium.

Just hope that the new stadium doesn't end up in LA or San Antonio. That would be like the NHL selling franchises to cities for short term cash ignoring what it could do to the sport to have teams that have 0 fan interest and will inevitably have to move like Nashville, Atlanta and Columbus. Now that the NHL is going down the tubes they're looking at these moves and going "Whoops!"
