Twins - White Sox Wild Card battle

With yesterday's 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox, the Minnesota Twins have taken a half-game lead in the race for the AL Wild Card. Minnesota has won 8 of their last 11 games, and the White Sox have currently fallen to third place in the Central division. Granted, this situation could reverse itself tomorrow, but doesn't it seem like the Twins are the hotter team right now, and thus more likely to walk away with the playoff berth?

Re: Twins - White Sox Wild Card battle

The Twins are extremely hot right now and lead the ChiSox by 1.5 games last I checked. I know that the rest of the AL is praying for Chicago to come back because nobody wants to face Santana/Liriano in October.

As long as Mauer and Morneau cand lead the offense, the Twins should be fine.

Here the latest scoop on the injured star, Francisco Liriano.

Francisco Liriano (elbow, shoulder) played catch again Friday and reported no problems.
That is always good to hear. Maybe he will be back earlier than we expected!

CHICAGO - Nick Punto hit an RBI single with two out in the 11th and the Minnesota Twins increased their American League wild-card lead to 1 1/2 games by beating the Chicago White Sox 8-7 Saturday.

Jermaine Dye's two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth off Twins closer Joe Nathan tied it at 7, but the Twins used a small-ball approach to push across the winner against Matt Thornton (4-2).

"We just keep fighting. We don't get down," Punto said after the Twins won for the ninth time in 12 games. "Super Joe Nathan blew a save. He never does that. Some teams might get down. We didn't."

Lew Ford led off the 11th with a single, moved to second on Jason Bartlett's sacrifice and to third on Luis Castillo's grounder. Punto then hit the ball the other way past diving Chicago first baseman Ross Gload to score Ford.

So the Twins gain another game on the ChiSox in the Wild Card race. Can anyone stop them now?
