Santana trade rumors

Well, expect Johan Santana trade rumors to go wild now. On Monday, the Minnesota pitcher told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he would waive his no trade clause if the team asked him to. So, does this mean that he will officially be on the block this winter? If so, where does he wind up?

Re: Santana trade rumors

Here's one I heard. Wang, Duncan, and Melky from the Yankees to the Twins. I heard it as it came out my mouth the other night.

This ought to make Empire happy, Milledge, Top Prospect Ivan Maldonado, and James Pelfrey to Minnesota for Santana

Re: Santana trade rumors

Where'd you hear that bears? (it's Mike Pelfrey, btw)

Frankly, any team that can afford signing Santana to a long-term deal should be in on him. There's no reason why a team shouldn't be interested in getting one of the best starters in the game.

Buster Olney went, when Santana said he wanted out in the first place

Re: Santana trade rumors

How about Ellsbury, Del Carmen, and Buchholz from Boston for Santana?

Would Boston deal three of their top prospects?

Re: Santana trade rumors

I really hope we don't trade him. But I wouldn't be surprised if we did.

thats so tough .... those are real good prospects, but how sweet would it be to have Beckett - Santana - Schilling - Dice K - Wakefield (or Lester) ..... that would be one hell of a rotation

Pretty much, the Twins had trouble scoring all season long, so I doubt we'd be able to slug it out. We would have Liriano back, but who knows if he will be as good after his surgery.

Re: Santana trade rumors

The Twins have some holes to fill (an outfielder and I think a 3B, not to mention a starter) so they could use Johan Santana as a way to fill some of those needs. But they still are trying to re-sign Torri Hunter and may look to deal Joe Nathan.

Plus, I wonder just how much they are expecting to receive in any potential deal for Santana. Teams will want time to talk extension with Santana. I gotta figure it will cost teams at least: One great major league ready outfielder, one good-great major league ready starter and another young player.

Youth above all, though. I'm sure they'd rather have a couple of young guys who aren't quite MLB ready than some aging veterans.
