Scott Baker's almost perfect game

Twins P Scott Baker tossed eight perfect innings against the Royals yesterday before losing his perfect game in the ninth.

According to the Associated Press, "Baker entered the ninth inning with a chance for just the 18th perfect game in major league history. But with a Metrodome crowd of 24,986 cheering, he went to a 3-0 count leading off on John Buck. Buck took a strike before the next pitch went inside and plate umpire Jim Wolf called ball four." The dude wound up throwing a one-hitter, striking out nine and earning just his second career complete game. Heck of a performance out of the Minnesota hurler, eh?

Re: Scott Baker's almost perfect game

i saw this during the football game ....... something i didnt understand ...... he had his perfect game until he walked a guy ...... then it was a no hitter with a man on first .... the next batter hit a weak grounder and they got the runner out at second but the batter was safe at first ...... they said he still had the no hitter going ........ why wasnt that a base hit ?

To be a hit, basically everyone needs to be safe, there can't be an out on the play or it's considered either a force out or a fielder's choice.

Re: Scott Baker's almost perfect game

Pinch hitter Mike Sweeney broke up the no hitter with a flare to left. Baker. who has been going back and forth between the birth of his second kid and the club, gave Sweeney credit, even though it was kind of a cheapie.
