Twins Game Postponed due to Bridge Collapse

According to the Associated Press, "The Minnesota Twins have postponed Thursday's game against Kansas City following a bridge collapse near the Metrodome and team president Dave St. Peter said their weekend series with Cleveland also could be affected."

They played Wednesday after being advised by public safety officials that it would be better to do so than to sent out the 20,000-plus fans on hand back out into traffic. "It is a difficult situation, but it was the right thing to do to play tonight," St. Peter told reporters. "Tomorrow is a different story. Not playing tomorrow is also a matter of traffic control. We are respectful of the situation and for the lives lost."

Kudos to the Twins for doing their best to help this situation out, both last night and today.

Cool Re: Twins Game Postponed due to Bridge Collapse

When I first heard about this, I thought it was some little bridge somewhere. But it was a major roadway.

I just saw a documentary on the history of New York's bridges. It showed how and the bridges in New York were built. I was amazed at how little actually holds these bridges up.

But I figure the experts know what they're doing. Then this happens...Scary stuff....Plus, in a little while, I have to over the GW bridge.....Oh well.

I ended up actually going over the Tappan Zee and Throgs Neck. I never looked so closely at the construction - but to honest - I had no idea what I was looking at.

Any engineers out there?
