The Minnesota Twins' four-game series against the Oakland Athletics beginning Thursday evening in the Metrodome could be an audition for A's first baseman Dan Johnson, a local high school graduate.

Insiders say the A's are intent on trading Johnson to make room for top first-base prospect Daric Barton, hitting .321 with six home runs at Class AAA Sacramento.

Why would the Twins need Johnson? I think they've got a guy named Mourneau playing first base.

Scouts have checked out Oakland Athletics catcher/DH Mike Piazza at batting practice recently and it's possible that some clubs, such as the Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees, might take a look at Piazza.

And Piazza, too...Looks like the Twins are intent on adding a bat.
