Minnesota Twins slugger Justin Morneau spent Friday night in the hospital with a small bruise on his lung after he collided with Florida Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo.

Morneau was coughing up blood repeatedly when he was taken from the stadium on a stretcher, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. But X-rays taken at the hospital were negative and a CT scan was normal, team spokesman Mike Herman said.

Eek. First Chris Simms with his spleen and now Morneau's lung. It's always scary when players injure vital organs. It sounds like he's going to be okay, though..From a baseball standpoint, the Twins can't afford to lose last year's MVP.

I was thinking the same thing...and it's baseball for gosh sake...didn't Eric Davis suffer an injury to a vital area during the 1990 World Series as well?

Yes.

One of Davis' most famous moments was when Davis homered off Oakland's Dave Stewart in his first World Series at bat in 1990. The home run triggered a World Series sweep for the Reds. While diving for a ball during the Series, Davis suffered a lacerated kidney which required surgery........ Davis remains bitter about the Reds treatment of him after his World Series injury.

The Minnesota Twins hope first baseman Justin Morneau can fly back home on Monday but will not rush the reigning American League MVP after his frightening collision at home plate on Friday night.

Morneau remained at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Florida for a second night on Sunday after coughing up blood following a collision with Florida Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo.

X-rays have found Morneau has not broken any bones, but it is uncertain when he will be cleared to fly.

"They don't want to have any complications when he gets on an airplane," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said in the Minneapolis Star Tribune..

Morneau has not yet been placed on the disabled list as the Twins wait for a clearer picture on his health.

"He's been text messaging people, and he's feeling fine, but we're being very cautious here," said Ron Gardenhire.

The first baseman is expected to undergo more tests on Wednesday and the team hoped he would be ready for Thursday's game and that has not been ruled out. If he returns too soon, Morneau could experience more bleeding in his lung. He is not expected to land on the disabled list.

Uchhh! I don't know. It sounds like he should be on the DL to me. A bleeding lung is something you would rather come back from a day too late, than a day too soon.
