Heard on ESPN today that Torii Hunter of the Twins thinks that MLB is overdoing it with Jackie Robinson Day. Don't have any quotes, but the gist of his comments is wearing Robinson's number should be special things limited to just a few people, like the Dodgers and Ken Griffey Jr., who asked both Robinson's widow and Bud Selig for permission and basically got the whole thing started. As it is, five teams (including the Pirates, Phillies and Cardinals) and an estimated 150 players will don the number. Is Hunter right? Has this gotten out of hand?

I agree with Hunter. For certain people, it means a lot. Hunter said a lot of players don't even know what Jackie Robinson was all about and such. I know Willie Randolph will be wearing the number on Sunday (if there's a game, there should be a bad storm in the northeast on Sunday).

I believe it's only 8% of MLB players are black. That's an awful number. Hunter said there were more black players playing with Robinson than there are now...I don't know if he was kidding or serious but I wouldn't be surprised.
