Mauer wins AL batting title

Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins held off New York's Derek Jeter to win the 2006 American League batting title with a .347 average. Jeter finished second at .344. This sure was one impressive season for Mauer, was it not?

Talk about close calls. I thought Jeter would finish with the AL Batting Title but losing to only .03 of a point? Wow. Mauer sure has had one hell of a year and he's in the Wright-esqueclass of you know he's only going to get better...much better.

His debut in the playoffs should be fun to watch.

On top of that, Joe Mauer becomes the first AL catcher in baseball history to capture the Batting Title Award.
