Francisco Liriano Done For Season

News from Minnesota is not good. Liriano returned today but left the mound citing discomfort in his shoulder. As it turns out, Gardenhire told the media he is now done and shut down for the rest of the season.

This begs the question, did they rush him back?

The start and the end of a bright career? How tragic!

Re: Francisco Liriano Done For Season

I don't think it was a case of him being rushed back; like they said on Mike & Mike this morning, he took his rehab starts, saw some in-game action in the minors and had been pitching well. It's just an unfortunate occurance, and yes, its looking more and more like he'll need Tommy John surgery. Fortunately he's young and will most likely be able to recover fully and return at or around the level he's been playing at.

That's why they pitched him - for all the fantasy owners out there...He couldn't let down his public.

Tommy-John surgery these days has been pretty good for those pitchers who get it. Sometimes guys can come back stronger than they did prior to the surgery.

Re: Francisco Liriano Done For Season

Well, good news for Liriano and the Twins. According to the AP, before yesterday's game, "general manager Terry Ryan said an MRI showed no structural damage to Liriano's left elbow, but added the club will be ultraconservative with its sensational rookie pitcher." So he shouldn't need Tommy John surgery after all, which is surprising considering he says he heard a pop when he threw.
