A glance ahead at 2010

Ok now that our Minnesota Twins season has ended, I thought i'd look ahead to the 2010 season, which brings me 1st to the free agent market here are a couple of players whom I think the Twins should take a long hard look at and try to sign.

Freddy Sanchez: 2B- I know he isnt exactly a free agent for sure he has a $8M club option with a $600K buyout. If he gets bought out, I think the Twins should get in on him, even if that means a bidding war, but dont go crazy, I wouldnt pay him over 7.5 mil. He would help solidify the infield and give us our possible #2 hitter if we dont bring Cabrera back. yes we have Punto, and his defense is nasty, some of the best work I have seen, but his offense, hurts the team.

Other options at 2nd base include: Placido Polanco.

Miguel Tejada: SS- Is he getting older? No doubt. If we can't land Sanchez, or if we decide not to re-sign Cabrera(which I was for, but now im not so sure when I think about his fielding) Tejada could give us some much needed pop from one of the two middle infielding positions, it also doesnt hurt that he is battle tested. Also plays descent defense, and can play 3rd base which is always a plus when talking about Twins baseball.

Other options at SS include: Orlando Cabrera or Jack Wilson.

Chone Figgins: 3B- Excellent overall player, great in the clubhouse & plays good Defense at the hot corner. However not sure if the Twins will spend big money here with Danny Valencia about ready to come up to the bigs.

Other options at 3B include: Joe Crede

SP- I think this may be one of the most important spots on the team, it is clear that this unit needs a veteran in it. I would be all for bringing back Pavano, he did what was asked of him. I might also take a look at Mark Prior, or Ben Sheets. But I think getting one of the 3 could be huge for the Twins, as it looks like Liriano will never re-gain his form.

However on the side chance that Liriano, regains some of his form and becomes an adequate starter we could look at players such as John Lackey, Josh Fogg or Kris Benson.

RP- It is painfully obvious that this unit needs 1 more arm, that can come in and get the job done, maybe that arm is Neshek, but do we really want to put our hopes in a player coming back from Tommy John Surgery? This is why I would like to sign a player like LaTroy Hawkins, he may be older and I know we were looking at getting him last year towards the deadline, and I think we should have, he brings a little something with him called familiarity within the system. Besides even if Neshek comes back at 100% it never hurts to have another arm in the pen.

other options at RP i'd consider: J.J. Putz & Casey Fossum

My Dream offseason would be to sign Freddy Sanchez & resign Orlando Cabrera, also sign a SP either Pavano or Ben Sheets, and add a reliever such as Latroy Hawkins. I might consider trading Nathan, and I would definately look to move one of our outfielders. Maybe put together a package of Nathan, Delmon Young, and Jason Kubel and see if we could get a great outfielder in return, is that likely obvioulsy not, but I think we have enough pieces to kind of toy around with the roster a little bit.
