Twins broadcaster Bert Blyleven will miss a total of five games after uttering a profanity during a live pregame broadcast. He will miss the Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 games at Tampa Bay, the Sept. 9 and Sept. 10 games against the Detroit Tigers and the Sept. 17 game at Cleveland. Apparently, he though the broadcast was being taped instead of going out live. Oops. What do you think of this story, readers?

Boy that FCC really has to get after those who use certain swear words during the day. Blyleven suspended for 5 games?! Overkill I believe is the correct word.

Overkill sure...but the guy by now is a Pro in the Booth...should it have made a difference if he thought it was being taped?...should he not conduct himself as a pro with either venue?

The other day I was watching a movie on TBS, and could not believe what wasn't being bleeped! Blyleven should save his language for when they tell the poor guy he was passed over for the Hall of Fame once more!

Blyleven gets 5 games for making an honest mistake. Roberto Alomar gets 5 games for spitting in an umpire's face. What am I missing here?

one was active and part of a team that needed him...one is retired and at the mercy of his employer?

I miss Roberto Alomar. I really liked his athleticism which he forgot to pack when he came to the Mets.

It was inappropriate to use profanity on a live broadcast but I can see where he is coming from. It might have slipped but it gives the audience a real taste of how the announcer speaks behind the microphone.
