ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Minnesota Twins' lineup, after hitting the snooze button for a week, took Labor Day off.
Fortunately for the Twins, however, Boof Bonser decided to work from home Monday afternoon.
The rookie pitcher made his big-league debut in his hometown a memorable one, lifting the sluggish Twins to a 2-1 victory over lowly Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field.
Bonser (4-5) continued to send a you-can-trust-me message to his team, allowing one run and five hits over 61/3 innings to propel the Twins a half-game ahead of the White Sox in the American League wild-card race.
The St. Petersburg native has helped hold together a starting rotation that has proved resilient in the absence of injured anchors Brad Radke and Francisco Liriano. Bonser is 2-3 with a 3.68 ERA in five starts since rejoining the rotation for the third time this season three weeks ago.

So even without Radke and Liriano, the team has an edge on the ChiSox right now. How's this race turn out?
