With Gophers coach Tubby Smith looking on, three of his former players and three players with local ties worked out for the Timberwolves Friday at their practice facility.
The players were primarily looking for a chance rather than to be taken in the upcoming draft. They were: former Gophers forward Dan Coleman, guard Lawrence McKenzie and center Spencer Tollackson; guard Jonte Flowers and forward John Smith of defending NCAA Division II champion Winona State and Minnesota State Mankato center Atila Spantos. One or more of them could be added to the Wolves' summer league team.
The Wolves staff is scheduled to fly to Houston next week for joint workouts with the Rockets. The week after that, the Wolves are expected to bring in another group of players, led by UCLA freshman Kevin Love.
