Cool Re: Brewers' Sheets on DL

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of tendinitis in his right shoulder.
The move is retroactive to May 3. The ace right-hander, who began this season on the DL due to a right posterior shoulder strain, is 1-3 with a 6.64 earned run average in 2006.
Injuries are certainly not new to Sheets. Throughout his six-year career, all with Milwaukee, Sheets has endured multiple injuries. The 27-year-old ended his 2005 campaign on the 60-day DL with a muscle tear in his back.
With an open roster spot, Milwaukee recalled left-handed pitcher Dana Eveland from Triple-A Nashville.

Why does it seem today's pitchers are so injured prone?...I remember in the early 70's pitchers tossing 300 innings a season 15-20 complete games and not having as many injuries...Is it bad mechanics?

Re: Brewers' Sheets on DL

Maybe guys would just suck it up and pitch hurt more, I don't know. You're right though Gotham, it sure seems like today's pitchers have zero stamina and very little consitution. They only go 5-7 innings a game, on average, and get hurt far more often.

My guess is poor mechanics and bulking up too much (though Clemens was a workout horse, as was Steve Carlton) ...they say Walter Johnson only threw a few warm ups and nothing on non game days...he said his arm only had so many pitches in it...

Carlton had some funky martial arts type of routines...and how much do pitchers run?...stamina my dad (who actual played the game in the 60's) use to say, came from running...
