Milwaukee signs Eric Gagne

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed RP Eric Gagne to a one year, $10 million deal.

$10 million.

For Eric Gagne.

He who went 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA in 20 games with the Boston Red Sox last year.

The Brewers GM has lost his damn mind.

maybe, maybe not...he was doing a good job in Texas prior to that...I like the signing...but the price tag is out of whack for taking a flyer on him.

It's a one-year deal. It's not that bad of a deal. He's coming over to the NL and he will be th closer. So they're counting on him getting his head on straight.

That's enough to knock it back into the $5-$7 mil range if you ask me...cause you might just end up with a high price middle reliever if it goes south.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. They're paying him twice what he's worth, IMO. It could pay off, but it's a huge gamble.

2-2, 6.75 ERA in 20 games and you think he's worth $5-7 million. Does that mean that Beckett with 20 wins 3.27 ERA should be making $50 million ???? I just don't understand how anyone could offer a non-producer that kind of money for a less than lackluster performance. Prove to me you can do it and we'll make you rich with incentives. Other than that he deserves a ton less than $5 million.

Well, let me clarify this here. I don't think any pro athlete is "worth" $5-7 million. But under current market value, given the whole of last season (not just time spent with the Sox), not to mention potential based on his career to date, I think a $5 million deal could be justified for him. But twice that is overspending by a considerable margin.

At one point, he was almost unhittable. They better hope he can find that arm again.

Cool Re: Milwaukee signs Eric Gagne

For one year, it's not a terrible deal. As Gotham and Empire note, he was doing well as Texas' closer.
