The 2006 Michigan Program:

Vanderbilt and Michigan have met ten times previously, the first in 1905 and most recently in 1969 (9-0-1). Overall Michigan leads the series against this Big Ten/SEC Football match-up. For Michigan fans it will be interesting to see this game just for all the changes that have taken place in the program since last year. After 2005's 7-5 disappointing season, there have been numerous changes on the Michigan staff, including new defensive and offensive coordinators along with a new linebackers and cornerbacks coach (an additional fourth coach for the defense).

So Michigan opens the season Saturday against Vanderbilt. Should be a nice warm up for the Wolverines, right?

Nice opening drive from the Wolverines offense - Mike Hart pounds it down the field, and Kevin Grady caps off the 10 play drive with a 19-yard run. They definitely seem to be playing with a chip on their shoulders. During the broadcast, one of the announcers said that guys like Hart were using "7-5, 7-5" (their record last year) as a mantra to eek out an extra rep or two. So far, so good... looks like its paying off, at least early against Vandy.

Great opening drive by Michigan. A nice run by Grady to cap it of with the score.

I think you're right Lefty with the rock on their shoulder. A 7-5 year is definitely cause for that stone to form.

But I've got to say I'm fairly impressed with Vandy. I really wasn't holding out much hope for then with Jay Cutler leaving. But they're holding their own better than I expected.

I'm hoping for a good 4 quarter game.

lol, I say that and then Vandy gives up 2 sacks in a row...

Its not that Vandy is looking good by any stretch of the imagination - they're getting outgained 227 to 79 thus far through the game, and they've punted five times. But the Michigan offense - which looked so good in the first couple of drives - all but died for the rest of the first half. 81 of Michigan's yards gained came on their opening drive. These guys need a wake-up call!
