The University of Michigan football team can't do anything to remedy its quarterback shortage for the 2008 season, but the Wolverines took a significant step Thursday toward correcting things for 2009.
Kevin Newsome, a highly regarded quarterback from Chesapeake, Va., has decided to play college football at Michigan, verbally committing to the Wolverines, according to Rivals.com.
Ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 39 player nationally regardless of position, Newsome picked Michigan over North Carolina, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Nebraska and others.
