The Detroit Free Press
gets the band back together:
Louisiana State coach Les Miles appears to be a Michigan coaching candidate again.
Miles had a phone conversation Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and school president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call.
Michigan received permission Nov. 28 from LSU athletic director Skip Bertman to speak with Miles, as long as it was after the Dec. 1 SEC championship game. So asking LSU again for permission was not an issue; U-M is believed to have initiated Friday's call.
Bertman is quoted in that article (and
many others) as saying "it's over, really over, don't come sniffing around my man again you two-bit tram," or words to that effect, but the
rumor going around (link is, full disclosure, going to my home blog) is that Miles actually has a significant job offer from Michigan at the moment and he's considering it.
No doubt this would/will cause a round of media caterwauling, as these things always do, but what do you expect when your big contract signing doesn't increase the buyout for Michigan?
