Sam McGuffie will trade in Cy-Fair maroon and white for the maize and blue of Michigan in 2008.

The soon-to-be-senior running back, who is one of the most coveted recruits in the nation, committed to play for the Wolverines on Sunday. He announced his intentions on KPRC's Sports Sunday program.

"The coaches there recruited me (hard), especially coach (Fred) Jackson, the running backs coach," McGuffie said. "They told me that if I go there that we'll be a team to be reckoned with."

McGuffie had 50 offers, according to Rivals.com. He chose Michigan over Texas A&M, USC, Florida and Notre Dame, his other finalists.

As a junior, the 6-0, 190-pound McGuffie rushed for 3,121 yards and 43 touchdowns and became known nationwide for an Internet video clip in which he hurdled a defensive back in a game last season. The clip has received more than 500,000 hits on YouTube.

McGuffie, the No.1 all-purpose back in the nation according to Rivals, said playing time also factored into his decision.

"They said I have a good shot at contributing early," he said. "I wanted to get (the decision) out of the way now so I could focus on the season and hopefully help Cy-Fair get to a state championship."
