The University of Michigan athletic teams rebounded from a relatively weak showing a year ago to finish fourth in the final Division I standings of the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup.
With 1,135.25 points, the Wolverines trailed just Stanford (1,429), UCLA (1,232) and North Carolina (1,161.33). Southern California (1,003.5) placed fifth.
"I think this shows the breadth and depth and quality of our programs,'' Michigan athletic director Bill Martin said of the results announced Wednesday. "I'm really pleased to see how we've done. That's where we've been historically.''
