Vanderbilt had to beat Michigan on Sunday to save its season, and the Commodores responded with a now-or-never 10-7 victory.

The stakes will be the same again tonight when the teams meet in an NCAA Tournament rematch at Hawkins Field.

The winner will advance to next weekend’s Super Regional round, one step from the College World Series. The loser goes home.

Top-ranked Vanderbilt avoided an early exit Sunday by disposing of Austin Peay during the day and Michigan during the evening in the Nashville Regional. VU played both games under the gun.

“Our backs were against the wall, and we knew we had to win to survive another day,” Commodores first baseman Brad French said.

Michigan defeated Vanderbilt on Saturday before the Commodores returned the favor Sunday. Corbin said tonight’s game will be played with no advantages.

“There’s a certain amount of momentum, but Michigan knows they got us and that we got them,” he said. “Now it comes down to one.”

I sure hope so. They are playing their best ball right now so I think the have a great chance to make it to Omaha.
