Big Ten bigwigs to battle tonight

This has arguably been one of the most exciting years in the perpetual Michigan-Ohio State rivalry.

The 2006 edition of The Game, as the annual football outing has come to be known, became an instant classic when hoards of excited Buckeye fans stormed the field to celebrate their team's national championship berth.

In basketball, the Wolverines were four minutes away from the upset of the season before crumbling down the stretch and ruining the electric atmosphere in Crisler Arena.

The running theme through the year has been Michigan coming up just short in seemingly every attempt to beat their bitter foes from Columbus.

But the Michigan baseball team is looking to reverse that trend this weekend.

The Wolverines' four-game series with Ohio State may not carry the same national championship implications as the others, but the competition will surely be just as fierce and hard fought as any other sport on campus.

"Anytime Michigan plays Ohio State, it's always big," Michigan coach Rich Maloney said. "Everyone knows about the football rivalry, but it's just as big in baseball."
