Michigan Fires Amaker

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan basketball coach Tommy Amaker was fired Saturday following six seasons leading the program without an NCAA Tournament appearance.

"I'm not going to make excuses," Amaker said in an interview before he was scheduled to appear at a news conference

According to ESPN.com's Andy Katz, some of the names up for consideration to replace Amaker include Washington State's Tony Bennett, Southern Illinois' Chris Lowery, former Golden State Warriors coach Mike Montgomery, UNLV's Lon Kruger, West Virginia's John Beilein, Xavier's Sean Miller, Cal's Ben Braun as well as ESPN analysts Rick Majerus and Steve Lavin.

Re: Michigan Fires Amaker

Michigan needs to be in the Tourney

6 years without an appearance is really unacceptable and i find it no surprise Amaker was fired

after 2 years he should have had plenty of time with his own players and he couldnt even make a good showing at the NIT

Good move... the Wolverines were bounced pretty early in the NIT, too, and I'm sure that's a factor. Wonder who they'll look to replace him with? And where's our buddy Michigan Man at? I'd like to get his thoughts on the Amaker firing!

They should have fired him 2 years ago. I was so glad to see that headline. I never though I would see the words 'Michigan' and Fires' in the same sentence. I am just so thrilled to have him out of here and hope they make the right choice in hiring someone.

Who are they looking at? I bet they could get Saban.

Any preferences for his replacement? Maybe one of the mid-major guys?

I like Lon Kruger from UNLV. Look at what he is doing with his team this year. I think they could get him.

Re: Michigan Fires Amaker

I'm hearing Rick Majerus' name being thrown out there. Interested in him at all?

Cool Re: Michigan Fires Amaker

Majerus is a great coach but has health issues.
