Ann Arbor, MI -- (Sports Network) - Jerret Smith scored 15 points to lead the third-seeded Michigan Wolverines to a 68-58 win over the sixth-seeded Utah State Aggies in first round action of the NIT.
DeShawn Sims came off the bench to score 14 points for the Wolverines (22-12), while Lester Abram added 12 points and seven rebounds in the win. Dion Harris chipped in 10 points.
The Aggies (23-12) were led by Jaycee Carroll, who scored a game-high 22 points in defeat.
Michigan shot 51.5 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 40-28 lead at the break.
