| Spartans striving for big finish in football recruiting Michigan State's 2008 recruiting class is "a B or a B-plus," said recruiting coordinator Mark Staten, with a chance to earn an "A" by the time prospects sign binding letters of intent on Feb. 6. "I'd say we've done very well," said Staten, who coaches tackles and tight ends for MSU. "The entire staff did a great job of evaluating film and identifying the players we need. ... We're definitely on our way back (as a program). We took a nice step forward." MSU has 18 known verbal commitments and could add as many as seven more players to the class. The latest rankings from recruiting services place the Spartans in the lower half of the Big Ten - Rivals.com ranks the class No. 7 in the league and No. 42 nationally and Scout.com has it No. 9 in the Big Ten and No. 54 in the nation.
