| Dantonio critiques, but stays positive EAST LANSING -- Sometimes players need to be whipped back into shape. This is not one of those times for the Michigan State football team, coach Mark Dantonio has concluded. The Spartans already have been beaten down by Big Ten-opening losses to Wisconsin and Northwestern and the criticism and jeers that accompanied those downfalls. Even though periods of mourning, like celebrations, are declared officially over exactly one day after the final whistle, some no doubt continue to beat themselves up over their contributions to the defeat. Some coaches might make their players run stadium stairs until they vomit for blowing assignments, committing penalties or failing to execute plays they have practiced thousands of times.
