Jon Misch was a name that came up a lot during the first day of Spartans practice yesterday. He's a 6-2, 210 pound freshman linebacker from Waterford, Michigan who has drawn a lot of praise from coaches early on.

"We're going to play the best 11 and again, that's across the board, not just athletically. It's athletically, mentally, physically, the whole thing," says Defensive Coordinator Pat Narduzzi. "To make a great example, we're not playing the 240-pound linebacker; we're playing with Jon Misch because he does all the little things right and he cares. Attitude's going to be a big thing."

"Jon is a guy who in spring practice, he went out there and every time you put the film on, he was making plays and playing with 100 percent effort," added head coach Mark Dantonio. "He's an extremely intense player, very intelligent player. It's important to him. And he's young, so he continues to grow. He's got good height. He's a little bit thin, but he's continuing to get stronger... You know, he's a football player. That's all I can tell you. He's a football player and they come in all sizes and shapes... But I can tell you that he will give his all out there, and that's what we're about. We're about playing every single play like that. He's a very heady player, as well."

Keep an eye on this kid Misch this fall. Sounds like he might just be a more athletic version of Rudy.
