Michigan State football spring practice

Mark Dantonio wants to build a foundation and likes some of the bricks he is finding as Michigan State's new football coach.

Though the first of the Spartans' 15 spring practices won't begin until next Tuesday, Dantonio has seen enough in 11 conditioning sessions at 5:45 a.m. to know he isn't starting from scratch.

"Our attitude is strong right now," Dantonio said. "But like I keep saying, we're on our honeymoon. There's going to be adversity. There are going to be growing pains. There are going to be decisions made.

"People are going to be happy and sad. It's a matter of how we all handle that."

Re: Michigan State football spring practice

It'll be interesting to see if Dantonio can do a better job than John L. did. I think he's good for at least 1-2 more wins.

Spartan Football Kicks Off Spring Practice

With temperatures in the upper-30s, first-year Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio sent his team through a 2 1/2-hour workout on Tuesday, March 20, as the Spartans opened spring drills. Ninety-three players - wearing shorts, jerseys and helmets - participated in the first of 15 allotted practices.
