Before Vaughn Telemaque boarded a six-hour flight to take his official visit to the University of Miami two weekends ago, time and distance weren't the only factors he was weighing before making up his mind on the Hurricanes.

Telemaque, a 6-foot, 195-pound safety out of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, had other worries:

• Was UM, which just completed its worst football season in 30 years, moving in a positive direction?

• Was all the hype about the 26 early commitments coach Randy Shannon netted before the end of the football season real?

Maybe they see a good chance to play on a poor to average team and that in itself is a good thing for a recruit and a big name school.
