| Kansas coach joins UM staff The University of Miami got its man. And he worked wonders at Kansas. University of Kansas defensive coordinator Bill Young, who took an unheralded, struggling defense and turned it into a national power, told The Lawrence Journal-World that he was offered and accepted the job Thursday as UM's defensive coordinator. ''It's a new challenge,'' Young told The Journal-World. ``Sometimes as a coach, you need that.'' Young, 61, did not return a phone message left at his home by The Miami Herald. UM will not announce the hire until Young takes his drug test and his employment paperwork is completed and processed. Young will replace Tim Walton, who was fired by coach Randy Shannon after the Hurricanes' defense declined during a lackluster 5-7 season. Kansas coach joins UM staff - 01/18/2008 - MiamiHerald.com
