History offers little about the frazzled Biltmore Hotel baker who after the game learned that icing, like a spur-of-the-moment tattoo, isn't doctored gracefully. After pulling a 7-0 upset, the Hurricanes had their cake, messy as it must have been, and ate it. Spurred on, organizers spent the next few years creating the inaugural Orange Bowl game and erecting Burdine Stadium, later renamed the Orange Bowl, which opened in December 1937.

This bit of Orange Bowl history lies under piles of dust in the grand old home the Hurricanes will abandon for Dolphin Stadium after Saturday's game against Virginia, which likely will be the last major event in the stadium.
