Miami didn't have to look far for its new head coach.
A university source told the Miami Herald that defensive coordinator Randy Shannon accepted the position Thursday. An announcement is scheduled for Friday.
Shannon, 40, replaces Larry Coker, who was fired last month after six seasons. Shannon becomes the sixth black head coach in Division I football.

THis is expected to be confirmed as soon as tomorrow morning.

I don't know much about Shannon...so is he a good fit as head coach?

He doesn't have any actual HC experience.

He did win some coaching award in 2001, though.

He also played on the 1987 championship team.

He's is regarded as a great defensive recruiter (duh).

In a sense, I kind of support the decision - but I am really interested to see/hear what the contract is. I guess we'll know more tomorrow.

The current players have to be pumped though. Well, at least the defense.

If I were Shannon, I think I would be a little offended. They had him the whole time, and went looking elsewhere. They were turned down, and then they looked to him.

Is this going to ba an actual hiring, or are they just using him until a higher profile name shows interest.

Well, probably just an interim thing... UNLESS the team really responds to him and wins like 10 games next season.
