| No longer a rumor-Coker is gone. I'm watching the live news conference on ESPN as I'm posting this thread...Coker has been dismissed. Who will be the Cane's next coach? Spurrier, Schiano?? Can't wait for that announcement. |

Spurrier, Schiano Emerging As UM Targets - NCAA Football - Yahoo! Sports I've been turning it over in my mind, and I'd hard pressed to come up with one name that would be a good fit in Miami. Your thoughts....?

| Coker Released from His Contract as Hurricanes Head Coach University of Miami head football coach Larry Coker was released from his contract today. "The University has made a decision to change head coaches for our football program," said athletic director Paul Dee. "We all recognize Larry's contributions to this program and all he has accomplished in his six years and in prior years as the offensive coordinator. On behalf of the university I want to thank him for what he's done for us." Coker Released from His Contract as Hurricanes Head Coach |

| Re: Coker Released from His Contract as Hurricanes Head Coach Yeah, I guess we all expected this. Coker did have a good run at Miami. He won a national championship, played in three BCS bowls and five total bowl games. He was only the second rookie head coach in NCAA history to win a national championship and won the 2001 Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award. He's the third winningest coach in Miami history, and according to this article, his students succeeded academically as well: "This year's football team has eight players who have already graduated and nine more who will graduate next month. The 2005 team graduated all 21 players, a total higher than any other college in the country. The Hurricanes' 2004 graduation rate was 84 percent, far higher than the national average of 58 percent."

| Re: No longer a rumor-Coker is gone. I'm counting, and everyone who watched that game knows it was a BS call. Anyway, I'm putting my money on Jim Leavitt from University of South Florida for the coaching job. Spurrier and Schiano will be too expensive, and all the other candidates don't have (enough/any) head coach experience. |

| Re: No longer a rumor-Coker is gone. From what what I can gather, it seems like Alvarez would be a candidate for AD. However, they haven't canned Paul Dee - and it doesn't look like they're going to. I would imagine that if a guy like Alvarez was going to come in as AD, they would bring before the search to find the new HC. So it looks like we're stuck with Dee. |

I've even heard Leavitt from USF mentioned as a possible, although I'm not certian he's he right guy for the job. |

| Re: No longer a rumor-Coker is gone. Well, all I really know is that UM hired an outside consulting firm or whatever to do the search. All I can really gather from that is no one will really know what's going on in the process until they're close to hiring someone. I've been hearing names thrown around left and right. I still think Leavitt has got to be near the top of the list. On another note, the Palm Beach Post ran an article today talking about everyone's favorite football analyst Kirk Herbstersdtsgcdt and his recent visit to the U. It's a good read. Allegedly, Shalalaleylalanana (UM's pres.) has pledged to upgrade the school's facilities. So, in theory, the next coach would even have a hand in designing our new facilities. Hmm.
