MIAMI GARDENS - Dedrick Epps got to the point where the answers sounded as if they were rehearsed.
He spent most of Saturday's BankUnited CanesFest repeatedly telling
University of Miami football fans exactly what they wanted to hear. As he signed autographs at Land Shark Stadium, he often provided the same response to a familiar question.
"The knee is fine," he said.
Epps, the Hurricanes' starting tight end, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in December. The injury threatened to force him to redshirt his senior season, but Epps says he will be ready for the season opener Sept. 7 at
Florida State.
"I've been running on it for a long time," said Epps, who caught 22 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns last season. "I don't know exactly how long, but it's been a little while. I'm feeling good. I plan to be ready."
