Alonzo Mourning

Isn't it amazing that Alonzo Mourning is still playing? This is the 13th season for the 7-time All-Star, and its been more than five years since he was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and nearly 2 1/2 years since he underwent a kidney transplant. Obviously, he can't take the physical burden of playing too many minutes these days, but would you believe he still leads the Heat with 2.9 blocks per game? Simply amazing.

Mourning is an absolute stud! I have always admired his game, both offense and defense.

In addition to his skills on the court, he is a class guy off the court. Some of the younger guys in the league should be more like Mourning!

He hasn't always been a model citizen, wvuauthor. Don't forget he refused to play for Toronto because the Raptors were so bad at the time. But he is a physical, medical marvel, no doubt about it!

Alonzo Mourning

He is ridiculous. This guy pumps his fist when he ties his shoe correctly. He is a carpet bagger, who once did, but no longer deserves a championship ring.

Cool Gulls is right on

I admire Mourning for what he's overcome. Having said that he couldn't have been more classless as a member of the Nets.

After the Nets basically decided to give Mourning 25 million dollars to appease Jason Kidd, the second things started to sour a bit in Jersey (Kidd got hurt and Kenyon Martin was traded), Mourning acted as if was owed a championship and demanded to be dealt.

A guy with class would have just shut his mouth, been thankful that he was payed all that money and been loyal to the organization. But players like Mourning feel that they're owed something extra besides what their stealing (I mean being paid) from the organization.

Rod Thorn couldn't get him out of there fast enough.

Re: Gulls is right on

I agree with some of the above comments, but a guy of his caliber does deserve the right to play for a title.

Player-team relations is a two way street, and if Thorn did not think that Mourning could help he would have never signed him. It is ridiculous to think that Kidd had enough pull to get Mourning $25 mil.

Re: Alonzo Mourning

Well, if the Heat does make a finals run, it may be without Mourning. He tore his right calf against the Pistons on Wednesday. Currently, he's expected to miss 3 to 4 week, but is trying to make it back before Miami's regular season finale in Boston on April 19.

Here's what he told the AP about the injury.

Quote:
"It is discouraging," Mourning said Friday. "But at the time same, I know it could have been worse."

...

"I'm going to make sure that I'm healthy before I come back," Mourning said. "It's important for me to be right before I step back on the court, especially going into the postseason. I don't want to risk coming back too early and injuring it again. It wouldn't be worth it."

Re: Alonzo Mourning

Sports has its place for washed up veterans. And all I can say is that if there is a place in the NBA for Dennis Rodman to play, then there is definitely a place for Alonzo Mourning to play. He played the whole game a few nights ago. If the man still wants to play at 45 years of age, let him. I'm not one to judge. I can't even touch the rim if I had a step ladder, I wouldn't make 2 out of ten free throws, and my idea of posting up is talking to you bozos.

Youre not really bozos but you catch my drift.

Re: Alonzo Mourning

I hope Mourning gets everything straightened out and the Heat can make a run deep into the playoffs. He is a tough guy so I am definitely not going to doubt him...
