Yesterday
I passed along a report from
Peter King of SI.com saying that Miami Dolphins boss
Bill Parcells had contacted Boston College to request tape of every one of quarterback
Matt Ryan's passes last season.
That, however, would be a violation of NFL rules, as the league prohibits teams from going directly to colleges to ask for tape of players. The NFL doesn't want college football video departments to feel overwhelmed around draft time, so the league mandates that teams seeking video of college players have to go through the league office to get it.
But
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Dolphins say they never made any such request of Boston College. So either the Dolphins are lying to avoid facing league discipline for facing the rules, or the Dolphins are lying because they don't want other teams to know they're interested in Ryan, or King's report was inaccurate.
King did not attribute the information about Parcells asking for Ryan's tape to anyone, so it's hard to assess whether the report is trustworthy, other than to say that King usually gets his facts straight. But the Dolphins say it isn't true.
