| Sparano leaks might cause mess On Saturday night, we were told by a very good source that Fins football poobah Bill Parcells has made his decision as to the identity of the team's next head coach. Our source didn't know who the winner will be -- only that a winner has been chosen. We assumed that the winner is Cowboys offensive line coach Tony Sparano, in light of rampant rumors and reports that Sparano will be the guy. Meanwhile, the New Haven Register reports that Sparano, a New Haven native, has been offered the job -- and will accept it. The fact that Sparano is from New Haven gives this report even more credibility; it's obvious to us that there's a connection between someone at the Register and Sparano or someone from his family. Our guess? Sparano made the mistake of telling someone, and that someone told someone else. The problem? The Fins have yet to interview a minority candidate, and thus have not yet complied with the Rooney Rule. Frankly, Parcells screwed this one up by not getting Frazier interviewed before SparanoAs we've previously explained, the issue here isn't race but compliance with the rules. The Tuna's blatantly obvious desire to always do things his own way must yield at times to the requirements that apply to everyone, including him. Then there's the fact that, by league rule, an offer can't be made by anyone to Sparano until the season of Sparano's current team ends. But, hey, only the Patriots break the rules.
