| Ricky Williams out for year ESPN.com is reporting that Ricky Williams will not return this season due to a torn chest muscle. Did any of you happen to see the replay of when he was stepped on by a defender? ESPN - Report: Injury ends Ricky Williams' 07 comeback - NFL |

| Re: Ricky Williams out for year I saw it the first time and nearly came out of my chair 'cause a flag wasn't thrown (the ref was standing right there and watched it happen!!!) and then in greater detail when they started all the replays. Williams was definitely on the ground and whether you saw the fumble or not, there was no reason to come at him feet first. In fact you can clearly see in one replay Williams' whole body move at least a foot, no pun intended, and then the foot twist as it was about to be removed. Luckily Williams pads kept his back from being torn by the guy's cleats. my opinion: it was definitely on purpose. players don't use other players for berm .. the offender knew full well what he was doing. Maybe it might be called an accident if the offender had come back to check on Williams, especially when he saw the damage he'd done but I didn't see it and I don't think anybody else did either. there's a lot of nastiness that goes on in pileups, but this was over the top. I'm not a Williams fan and don't think he should have come back. but I think intentionally trying to maim a player is wrong and the offender, ID'd in the ESPN article as Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, should be banned from the NFL for life. I also think the ref who witnessed it happen right next to him without a flag for unnecessary roughness should be sanctioned. I was particularly appalled the announcers glossed over the incident, until the umpteenth replay when, by then, it was clear to every eyeball watching the TVs and jumbo-trons what happened. then they only said his being stepped on "apparently" caused the injury. Let a 300 pound lineman roll up a runner's leg and we get the gory details, but because of Williams notoriety and the low regard most people in the NFL have for him, it was barely mentioned. but then I'm not surprised anymore by the callousness of the players nor the other "actors" in the NFL. most of them are only concerned about themselves and it shows in the way they play and report the game. after all, Ricky Williams was not the story they wanted to focus on, just the "terrible conditions" these poor players had to play in... so they got their wish. Williams is out for the rest of the season after a few plays, so now they don't have to care about him 'till next year, if he decides to try again, that is.
